Horsemanship goes beyond the confines of an arena and into adventure, as focused on in the February 2019 issue. Clinician Craig Cameron explains why riding a horse outside the pen boosts confidence and solidifies skills in the feature article, “Outside the Lines,” by Susan Morrison. “Ride for the Border,” by Jennifer Denison, takes you inside the historic Arizona guest ranch Rancho de la Osa where they focus on hospitality, horsemanship and cowboy traditions. Western Horseman staff compiled 10 destination towns where cowboys, horses and cattle still define the culture. Rounding out the feature well is “Leroy & Kiwi,” by Ross Hecox. It gives an update on how the toughest geldings from last year’s Road to the Horse competition are handling life under saddle.

Continue to explore the West throughout the magazine, like in the article “Going the Distance,” which profiles long-distance rider Gillian Larson. “Bringing Rein to Africa” tells how Texas reining trainer Ed Harrison followed his faith and shared his horsemanship knowledge with horse owners overseas. And check out the must-see Western stop, the eclectic Madonna Inn in California.

And as always, you can find stories on Western artisans, Women of the West, rodeo and must-try recipes.
